Homemade Instant Oatmeal

A favorite toddler breakfast around here is the instant flavored oatmeal packets, be it the ease that it grips a spoon for a wobbly toddler hand or the sugary goodness that's hidden inside, it's become a go-to breakfast staple to throw fruit into and serve while Mom can sip on some caffeine and wake up! One bad thing that is always shared about these packets are the hidden ingredients and loads of sugar, though. Unfortunately, making your own and getting the right texture isn't as easy as just whipping up plain oats, but I think I've perfected a homemade version that is definitely worth sharing with the masses. So here it is!

Homemade Instant Oatmeal
Old Fashioned Oats (however much you want to pre-make into packets)
Non Dairy Creamer
Blender
Baggies
Brown Sugar (optional)

Take half of the quantity of oats you want, and blend them to a fine sand texture in your blender. This trick will make the oatmeal thick and sticky, similar to the packets! Organize your work space to have oats, blended oats, non dairy creamer, and brown sugar (if you're using the sugar) available to grab, and open your bags for an easier preparation.

In each bag, add:
1/4 cup oats
2 tbsp blended oats
1/2 tbsp non dairy creamer
1/2 tbsp brown sugar

Shake each bag to mix, and store them in a container if you have an old house with mice! ;)

When you're ready to prepare a bag, just dump it into a microwave safe bowl, add 1/4-1/2 cup water depending on the consistency you desire, and microwave for 1:30. There you have it- Homemade Instant Oatmeal!

I chose to make mine into baggies to resemble the packet portion size, but you also could pre-make this and store it in a mason jar or full container to scoop out to your liking just as well! Wah-lah!
